SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Field Hockey fell on the road at Gettysburg College on Saturday in a Centennial Conference test.
Swarthmore out-cornered Gettysburg 10-9 but couldn't get a shot past Gettysburg's stingy defense in the 6-0 loss.
Gettysburg peppered Swarthmore with 27 shots, 18 on goal.
Ainsley Parrish recorded 10 saves and
Zelda Bank added two. Swarthmore's
Kathleen Carmichael posted two shots on goal and
Clare Perez added the Garnet's third on-target shot. Carmichael's attempt followed off of Perez's saved shot and would have put the Garnet on the scoreboard just before halftime had it not been saved on the goal line by a Bullets' defender.
Hannah Fitzgerald led the Gettysburg Bullets with a hat trick, scoring two of those goals in the final ten minutes.
The Bullets scored the game's opening goal at the end of the ninth minute but the Garnet kept them from scoring again for another 20 minutes.
Swarthmore trailed 2-0 going into the second half, but Fitzgerald's goal in the 38th minute widened the gap and led to a four-goal second half for the Bullets.
The Garnet look to rebound on Thursday when they play a non-conference game against Hood College at 4 p.m. at Clothier Field Stadium.
