NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Swarthmore women's basketball team concluded the weekend with a 108-64 loss to #1-ranked FDU-Florham in the second round of the NYU Holiday Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 4 at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center. The Garnet were facing an undefeated and ranked opponent for the second straight day.
 
Jordyn Bell converted a layup on the first possession of the game to give Swarthmore a quick advantage, but the Knights got a 3-pointer from Kara Dayon on the other end and rattled off 13 straight to seize the momentum. The nationally-ranked squad extended the margin to 24-11 at the midway point and were ahead 44-25 at the recess.
 
FDU-Florham (12-0), which captured the national championship last year and is riding a 45-game winning streak, kept the Garnet at bay in the second half. Another trifecta by Kara Dayon gave the Knights a 70-40 cushion at the 13:26 mark before a Leigh-Ann Lively trey with 3:45 left allowed them to eclipse the 100-point plateau en route to the victory.
 
Kara Dayon finished with 20 points to lead FDU-Florham, which has not lost since dropping a 56-52 decision to Widener in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on March 1, 2013. She also contributed seven rebounds and four assists. Lively added 19 points off the bench, including six 3-pointers, and Danielle Leguillou fell just shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine helpers.
 
Junior Jessica Jowdy paced Swarthmore with 21 points. Senior Elle Larsen had a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards, while sophomore Maggie O'Neil netted five and dished out four assists.
 
Swarthmore (3-7) resumes Centennial Conference play when it entertains Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 5 p.m.
