Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. – Myonie Williamson scored 12 points and converted a layup with 0.9 seconds left to lift Dickinson to a 48-47 victory over the Swarthmore College women's basketball team on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Kline Center.
With the shot clock turned off and the score tied at 46, senior
Elle Larsen drew a foul with five seconds left and made one of two free throws to put the Garnet up by one. But Dickinson (4-12, CC 2-10) fired right back in the waning seconds, as Williamson took a short inbounds pass and covered nearly the entire length of the floor before finishing with a lefty layup on the other end with under a second remaining to give the hosts a thrilling win.
The teams went back and forth and played a one possession game with seven ties and four lead changes throughout the first half. After junior
Abbey Deckard nailed a 3-pointer to start the scoring, Dickinson answered with seven of the next nine points to take a 7-5 lead on a Mairead Donahue jumper. The Garnet, however, got a field goal and a free throw from junior
Jessica Jowdy in the waning moments to take a 23-22 lead into the break.
Swarthmore (5-12, CC 2-9) started the second half strong by getting six straight points from
Elle Larsen, but the Red Devils stormed back with a 17-2 run to establish control. Helen Roberts hit a trifecta to break a 31-all tie and followed with an old-fashioned 3-point play to give the hosts a 39-31 advantage with 10:49 left.
The Garnet attempted to rally over the final 10 minutes and regained the lead when freshman
Melanie Ackerman drained consecutive 3-pointers to make it 46-44 with 1:58 left. Dickinson then answered and had the ball with under a minute and a chance to take the lead, but a suffocating Garnet defense down low forced a turnover. Despite the missed opportunity, the Red Devils capitalized on a missed free throw by Larsen on the other end to pull out the victory.
Williamson netted her 12 points by shooting 4-for-10 from the field and converting four shots from the line to lead Dickinson, which has earned both of its conference victories this season over the Garnet. Mary Martin contributed nine points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Larsen netted 26 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds to pace Swarthmore. Jowdy added six points, six rebounds and four assists.
Swarthmore (5-12, CC 2-9) returns home to face Washington College on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m.
