SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior Joe Keedy recorded a double-double in his final career game to lift the Swarthmore College men's basketball team to a decisive 80-63 victory over Haverford on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Tarble Pavilion.

After a competitive first half with six ties and three lead changes, Swarthmore used an 11-2 run in a span of less than two minutes to establish control of the game. With the Garnet ahead 43-42, Keedy started the streak by converting a 3-point play the old-fashioned way. Sophomore Sean Thaxter followed with a layup, prompting a Haverford timeout, and freshman Sam Lebryk and junior Karl Barkley each drilled a shot from downtown to put the Garnet ahead by double figures at the 14:33 mark.

Swarthmore (8-17, CC 5-13), which honored its five-member senior class prior to the contest, used another 11-2 run in the middle of the frame to pull away. Jay Kober capped the stretch by making a layup that gave the Garnet a 16-point cushion at 65-49. Meanwhile, the Swarthmore defense did not allow the Fords to convert a field goal for a span of 9:37 until Brett Cohen made a layup to create a 69-57 score with 4:03 left. Barkley and Keedy added free throws down the stretch for the insurance.

The first half was nip-and-tuck, as neither team led by more than four points until Barkley drained a 3-pointer to make it 21-15 before adding two charity shots to extend the Garnet lead to 23-15 with 11:06 on the clock. Haverford came back and regained the lead on two occasions down the stretch, but a trey by Barkley in the waning seconds gave the hosts a 39-37 edge and momentum heading into the recess.

Swarthmore got 17 points and 12 rebounds from Keedy in his final game. Barkley added 16 points off the bench, while freshman Chris Bourne and Kober added 10 points apiece.

Haverford (8-16, CC 4-14) was paced by Louis Cipriano in the losing effort. He contributed 17 points, which matched a game high with Keedy, and had two steals. Matt Sherman netted 14 in a reserve role and Cohen grabbed 11 boards.

With today's victory, Swarthmore has now improved its win total in both seasons under second-year head coach Landry Kosmalski. The program is slated to return 11 letterwinners and three starters next year.
