ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Despite getting a season-high 22 points from senior
Jay Kober, the Swarthmore College men's basketball team fell to Muhlenberg by a 63-54 decision on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Memorial Hall.
The Garnet jumped out to a 5-0 lead by getting a 3-pointer from Kober followed by a
Karl Barkley bucket, but Muhlenberg answered with 15 straight to seize control of the contest. Senior Austin Curry scored eight points during the stretch to help fuel the run for the hosts. The Mules extended their lead to as many as 13 on a conventional 3-point play by John Hunter that made it 20-7 and held a nine-point advantage at the break.
The Mules maintained their lead throughout the second half and built up a 10-point cushion on a Kevin Hargrove free throw. Swarthmore made it interesting and came within two when Kober nailed a trey to make it 38-36 with 11:03 on the clock as well as a jumper at the 8:58 mark. However, that was as close as the Garnet would come. Muhlenberg got a monster dunk from Hargrove and ended the game on a 7-2 run to sweep the season series between the schools.
