Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women's basketball team fell to Muhlenberg by a 95-65 score in the Centennial Conference opener for both programs on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Tarble Pavilion.
Muhlenberg (1-1, CC 1-0) led from start to finish and burst ahead late in the first half. After junior
Jessica Jowdy made it a one-possession game at 22-19 by sinking a pair of free throws at the 9:39 mark, the Mules embarked on an 11-1 run to begin pulling away. The deficit grew to as many as 17 on two occasions before the visitors would go into the recess ahead by a 47-32 score.
The Mules maintained control of the second half, scoring on its first possession and beginning of the frame on a 15-4 run. Senior
Elle Larsen attempted to lead an attempted rally by contributing 14 points and seven boards in the second half alone, but the Garnet would come no closer than 16 the rest of the way. The Mule advantage ballooned up to 36 before Larsen would close out the scoring by sinking a free throw in the waning seconds.
Tallamy paced the Mules by recording a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Christina Santone added 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting from the line, while Laura Gregory scored 10 points and dished out four assists.
Swarthmore (1-2, CC 0-1) was led by Larsen's 25 points and nine rebounds. She also had a team-leading three assists. Freshman
Melanie Ackerman contributed 17 points, which included canning five shots from downtown, and Jowdy finished with 14.
The Garnet continue Centennial Conference play when they visit Gettysburg on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m.
