Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's basketball team was dealt a 71-62 loss to Bard in the final round of the Equinox Classic on Sunday, Nov. 17 at Haverford's Calvin Gooding Arena.
After a competitive first half which featured 10 ties and 12 lead changes, Bard took over after by beginning the second half on a 14-1 run and not allowing the Garnet to hit a field goal until sophomore
Chris Bourne drove in for a layup with 11:40 left. Caleb Rosa broke a 40-all tie and was one of five Raptor players to score during the stretch before Bourne's basket brought the deficit down to single digits. The Garnet never came closer than seven the rest of the way.
Bourne led the way for Swarthmore, which shot 17-for-20 from the line and 52.6 percent from the field in the first half, by accumulating 14 points and 11 rebounds. He was also named to the all-tournament team for averaging 16 points, 9.5 rebounds and shooting 61.5 percent from the field over the weekend. Freshman
Matt Brennan netted a team-high 16 points and recorded three swipes, while Lebryk contributed nine points off the bench.
Bard (1-1) was paced by DeVahnte Mosley's 23-point effort in a reserve role. He shot 6-for-7 from the field, including 2-for-2 from downtown, and 9-for-10 from the line. Siondueh Burnette added 15 points and eight rebounds, and Pat Lichtenstein finished with seven points, three assists and three steals.
Swarthmore (0-2) opens up Centennial Conference play at Gettysburg on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 3 p.m.
