In the absence of key senior team leaders, the underclassman stepped up and carried the team. Sophomore
Erica Flor accounted for two of Swarthmore's five individual event victories, sweeping the backstroke events with a time of 1:02.27 in the 100 back and 2:18.24 in the 200 back. In the 200 race, Flor hit the wall just ahead of freshman
Jillian Haywood, who pulled in with a time of 2:22.13.
Haywood decisively won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.54, while freshman Sydney Andersen pulled out a 5:34.98 victory in the 500 freestyle. Fellow freshman
Ashley Hwang followed up Andersen's winning race with one of her own, hitting the wall with a time of 1:02.48 in the 100 fly, closely followed by sophomore
Abigail Byrne with a time of 1:05.91. Byrne had a strong showing in the 200 fly as well, coming in second place with a time of 2:25.62.
The Garnet will return home to Ware Pool next week to kick off the two-day Swarthmore Invitational on Friday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m.
