Sarah Wallace recorded 17 kills and hit at a .412 clip to lead the Swarthmore College volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Marywood (14-11) on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Tarble Pavilion. The Garnet won by set scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-19 to advance to the ECAC Semifinal Round against Marymount on Saturday afternoon at Lebanon Valley.
Entering the match, Wallace needed six kills to set a the program record for swings in a single-season - previously held byÂ
Genny Pezzola '12 at 404 kills set in 2009. With Wallace's 17-kill match, she finished with 416 and the Garnet will compete twice more before the season's end.Â
In the victory, Swarthmore's (23-7) defense was set by junior libero Madison Heppe with 11 digs. Nine total players registered a dig in the match, including senior Kate Amodei and Wallace with eight apiece. At the net, freshmen Alice Liu and Bridget Scott combined for eight blocks and each swung five kills. Freshmen
Malia Scott, Amodei and Heppe each recorded two services aces in the victory, including Amodei's match-ending ace to send Swarthmore into the ECAC semifinals.Â
In the first semifinal on Saturday, No. 1 seed Lebanon Valley will play No. 5 Neumann at 10:00 a.m., followed by No. 2 Swarthmore versus No. 3 Marymount. Winners of the semifinals will play for the championship at 7:00 p.m. and the losing semifinal teams will play in a consolation match at 4:00 p.m.Â
