GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Swarthmore College volleyball team collected a 3-1 road victory over Gettysburg College on Wednesday evening to remain undefeated in Centennial Conference action. After dropping the first set to the Bullets, the Garnet won straight sets for the team's seventh consecutive win and first ever program win at the Battlefield.
Gettysburg (14-7, 2-2 CC) rebounded from a four-point deficit (15-11) to take the opening set 25-21. Swarthmore (13-4, 5-0 CC) bounced back in set two, pounding down 18 kills in a 25-20 decision. The final two sets featured 18 ties and 11 lead changes as the Garnet prevailed in both with scores of 25-16 and 25-19.
The Garnet had four players in double-digit digs and three in double-digit kills with freshmen Malia Scott and Sarah Wallace leading the way, each recording double-doubles. Scott finished with 16 digs and 14 assists, while Wallace had 16 kills and 10 digs. Junior libero Madison Heppe added 16 digs in the effort.
Freshmen Bridget Scott and senior Chastity Hopkins combined for 26 kills in the victory. Scott also shut down the Bullet attackers with five total blocks. Freshman middle blocker Alice Liu recorded a season-high eight kills. Junior Sam DuBois finished just shy of her eighth double-double on the season, finishing with 28 assists and nine digs.
Hannah Bentz of Gettysburg had a match-high 22 digs to anchor the Bullets' defense. Stephanie Blair set the attack with 28 assists and Hannah Ballman recorded six total blocks to lead all players at the net. Gettysburg's 39 kills came from nine different players, including nine swings from Courtney Morrow.
The Garnet will host McDaniel and Penn State Berks on Saturday, October 11th in a tri-match from Tarble Pavilion beginning at 1:00 p.m.
