Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College volleyball team shutdown Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night from Tarble Pavilion, to capture the Centennial Conference victory in straight sets over the Mules. With the win, the Garnet continues to hold an unblemished record at home and in the conference.
Swarthmore (20-5, 8-0 CC) had a balanced floor in the victory, with junior
Madison Heppe and freshman
Malia Scott anchoring the defense on a combined 26 digs. Scott finished with a double-double, adding 19 assists in the match.
Freshman
Sarah Wallace recorded 15 kills, while junior setter
Sam DuBois collected 18 assists and seven digs. Senior
Kate Amodei earned three service aces and nine digs in the effort. At the net, senior
Chastity Hopkins put down four blocks, while Scott and freshman
Alice Liu each had two.
Muhlenberg (22-4, 6-2 CC) capitalized on a few Garnet miscues to take a 3-0 first set lead before the home team rattled off four straight points, including a kill from Wallace and service ace from Amodei. The teams would trade points through the middle of the set with Wallace recording four kills and Muhlenberg's Eric Murphy recording a block and kill en route to a 11-11 draw. A dump shot from DuBois following her service sparked a five-point run for the Garnet – DuBois earned two service aces in the run, while freshman Bridgett Scott and Hopkins each swung points. Swarthmore kept the momentum going; surrendering only four Muhlenberg points the rest of the set, taking a 25-15 victory.
The Garnet would lead the rest of the way. Muhlenberg looked to win the third set after a six-point deficit to tie the set at 16, but Swarthmore pulled away on points from Liu and Wallace. Swarthmore concluded the match-sweep on a service ace from Amodei and a big swing from Wallace.
Libero Chelsea Kaser led the Mules with 22 digs on defense and Katherine Boll and Allison Glass each had nine swings for the attack.
The Garnet host Lycoming College on Saturday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m., before finishing the conference regular season against Bryn Mawr and Haverford. Postseason standings will be determined in the Garnet-Fords match during Garnet Weekend.
