CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Junior
Samuel Tomlinson won the 50-yard freestyle, but the Swarthmore College men's swimming team dropped a dual meet to Washington College by a 139-66 score on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the Casey Swim Center. Despite the loss, the Garnet registered eight season-best performances.
Tomlinson was victorious in the 50 free by hitting the wall in 22.53 seconds. He also anchored the runner-up 200 medley relay squad that posted a season-best mark of 1:38.85 to begin the evening. Joining Tomlinson on the relay was freshman
Liam Fitzstevens as well as senior
Stan Le and freshman
Andrew Steele.
Other notable individual performances were made by freshman
Stephen Sekula, Le, Fitzstevens and
Rodrigo Hernandez. Sekula finished second in the 100 free (50.39) and 200 free (1:51.02), while Le was second in the 100 fly in 55.86 and Fitzstevens was the runner-up finisher in the 100 back in 54.85. Hernandez, a junior, notched season-best times of 23.67 in the 50 free and 1:01.55 in the 100 back, respectively.
Swarthmore (4-3, CC 2-2) hosts Gettysburg on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m.
