Karl Barkley each netted double figures, but the Swarthmore College men's basketball team fell to first-place Dickinson by an 80-52 score on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Tarble Pavilion.
Dickinson (14-3, CC 9-1), which is among the teams receiving votes in the D3Hoops.com national poll, scored the first five points of the game and led from wire-to-wire. A 3-point field goal by junior Gerry Wixted gave the Red Devils an 8-2 advantage and forced Swarthmore to burn a timeout less than two minutes into the game.
After the 30-second break, the visitors quickly extended the lead to twin figures when senior Tom McInerney hit a free throw to make it 15-5 with 13:48 left in the frame. Junior Pete Yingst later converted two shots at the stripe to give his team a 41-25 cushion at the recess and used a strong second half to coming away with a convincing 80-52 win.
Kober netted a team-leading 11 points for Swarthmore despite logging in just 15 minutes of action and Barkley contributed 10. Freshman
Chris Bourne finished the game with eight points and seven boards.
Dickinson was paced by senior Adam Honig, junior Steve Collins and McInerney. Honig scored a game-high 21 points and dished out three assists, while Collins had 10 points and five rebounds. McInerney posted 11 points in 13 minutes of play off the bench.
Swarthmore (5-12, CC 2-8) visits Washington College on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m.
