Wyatt McCall scored the game-winning goal and also added an assist in leading the Swarthmore College men's soccer team to a 3-1 comeback triumph over Arcadia on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Easton Field. With the victory, the Garnet rallied from behind to remain undefeated through three matches this fall.
The teams traded goals in the opening half and went into the break tied at 1-1. After Alex Wells put Arcadia (0-1-1) on the board first in the 18th minute,
Devon Baughen netted the equalizer on the other end in the 31st minute to even the score.
Swarthmore (2-0-1), which had a commanding 28-9 shot advantage in the match, found the back of the net twice in the second half to complete the rally. McCall, who assisted on Baughen's tally in the first half, punched in the eventual game-winning goal in the 74th minute that was set up by
McWelling Todman before
Joe Keedy added an insurance tally by finishing a pass from
Michael Stewart to produce the final outcome.
Peter Maxted earned the victory in goal by stopping three of the nine shots he faced for Swarthmore, which also had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks over the Knights. Arcadia's R Lantzy suffered the loss after making 10 saves on 28 Garnet shot attempts.
Swarthmore will look to remain undefeated when it hosts Widener in a 320 Challenge match on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.
