Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College field hockey (2-5, 0-1 CC) squad opened Centennial Conference action on Wednesday afternoon against No. 7 Franklin & Marshall (5-0, 1-0 CC). The Diplomats pulled off a late goal to leave with a 3-2 victory.
Tied 2-2 from the 55th minute, the game was looking to go into extra frames, but Bethany Vincent of F&M settled a shot from Maria Guarisco inside left corner to give the visitors the go-ahead and victory.
The Dips opened the attack at 12:11 on Katie Cecere's first of two goals on the day, both unassisted. The Garnet found its grove again with its penalty corner - all four goals in the last two games have come off Swarthmore's corner attempts - as an input pass from junior

Aarti Rao tied the game at 23:44. Franklin & Marshall scored once before the half - Cecere's second - for a 2-1 lead into the break.Â
Lauder and Rao teamed up again off the corner at 54:23 to tie the game yet again at 2 all. Swarthmore put three shots on goal in the game - two for Rao off a corner attempt found the back of the cage.
Senior goalkeeper
Gabby Capone made four stops in a complete game for the Garnet. The Dips keeper Avery Koep made one save in the winning effort.
Franklin & Marshall had 18-3 shot advantage and 15-4 penalty corner edge, but the Garnet proved its corner technique effective.
Swarthmore returns to action Saturday, September 21 with a road trip to Dickinson College as Centennial Conference play continues. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
