Box Score 4 SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College volleyball team finished third in the Garnet Classic after splitting with opponents Vassar and Hamilton College on Sunday afternoon from Tarble Pavilion.
Stevenson (14-0) became tournament champions with a three-set sweep of Vassar (6-5) (
25-17, 25-10, 25-11).
From Stevenson, Jessica Gieselman was named tourament most valuable player and teammates Imani Hudson and Samantha Perillo earned all-tournament recognition.
The Garnet return to action on Tuesday, September 17 in a non-conference match with Rowan University. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. from Tarble Pavilion.
To open the last day of the tournament, Swarthmore (9-3) dropped its third match to Vassar 3-1 by set scores of 25-11, 23-25, 23-25, 23-25 - the Brewers advanced to the championship match. In the consolation game, the Garnet met Hamilton (1-7) again, sweeping 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-14). Sophomore setter
Sam DuBois earned all-tournament recognition for the Garnet adding two more double-doubles on the season.
Heppe led the Garnet defense on the day with 36 combined digs, while senior
Danielle Sullivan had 27 and DuBois and freshman
Emma Eppley each had 21. The front line finished with 12.5 total team blocks, including six block assists from senior
Brone Lobichusky and four from Sullivan and junior
Chastity Hopkins.
Sullivan led Swarthmore's offense with a combined 20 kills - she earned a double-double (11 kills, 12 digs) against Vassar. Hopkins finished with 17 kills on the day, while Lobichusky and senior
Maggie Duszyk had 15 and 14, respectively.
Kate Amodei had three services aces against the Brewers, while Sullivan combined for three and Eppley had two against Hamilton.
On day one, Swarthmore opened with a 3-1 victory over the Continentals by set scores 25-20, 15-25, 25-15, 25-8 followed by a loss to the Mustangs (25-21, 19-25, 17-25, 8-25).

Senior
Danielle Sullivan earned her first double-double of the season with 20 digs and 13 kills. Sophomore setter
Sam DuBois, also notching a double-double, led with 25 digs and 36 assists. At the net, senior
Brone Lobichusky had two solo blocks and four block assists, while senior
Maggie Duszyk had two solo blocks and one block assist.
Three Garnet players hit double-digit kills including Sullivan's 13, Lobichusky had 10 and junior
Chastity Hopkins finished with 12 kills. Sophomore libero
Madison Heppe earned 15 digs, 2 service aces and five assists. Sophomore
Anastasia White-Torruellas collected three service aces and seven kills.
Courtney Somerville led Hamilton's offense with 12 digs and Brenna Corrigan earned three service aces and eight kills. Anna Brown anchored the defense with 19 digs and Ivanka Temnycky had 15 along with one service ace.
Match 2 vs. Stevenson
The Mustangs put together a collective defensive effort to earn the victory as five players had double-digit digs including junior libero Samantha Perillo with 35 and senior Christine Isenberg with 18 of her own. Four players notched double-doubles and senior setter Jessica Gieselman collected a triple-double with 39 assists, 11 digs and 11 kills.
Heppe led with 19 digs, while DuBois (12), junior
Kate Amodei (16) and Sullivan (16) all set the Garnet defense. The Garnet had seven total team blocks with four assists from Lobichusky, three from both Hopkins and Sullivan, and White-Torruellas went up for her first solo block of the season.
DuBois and Duszyk led the offense with 24 assists and 11 kills, respectively.
