Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior
Joe Keedy scored 14 points and shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe, but the Swarthmore College men's basketball team fell to Muhlenberg by a 64-48 score on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at Tarble Pavilion. The Mules never trailed in the contest and put a halt to the Garnet's three-game winning streak.
Kevin Hargrove broke a 2-2 tie and started an 8-2 run by converting a layup at the 18:40 mark. Despite trailing, Swarthmore kept the deficit at single digits for most of the half until Malique Killing sank a pair of free throws to give the Mules a 26-15 advantage with 6:58 to play. The Garnet came within seven courtesy of a
Chris Bourne layup in the waning minutes, but Killing drained a 3-pointer to give his team a 34-24 advantage at the break.
Swarthmore attempted to rally in the second half and came within five at 36-31 when senior
Jay Kober found freshman
Sam Lebryk for a layup. But that was as close as the Garnet would come the rest of the way, as the Mules hit 10 consecutive free throws in the final 10 minutes to seal the final outcome.
In addition to netting 14 points, Keedy also corralled six rebounds and dished out an assist to pace the Garnet. Junior
Karl Barkley and Kober finished with eight points apiece.
Muhlenberg (5-1, CC 2-1) was paced by Hargrove's 19-point, 14-rebound performance. He also had two steals and two blocks. Killing added 23 points and five steals, which were both game highs.
Swarthmore (3-4, CC 2-1) will return to action when it visits Dickinson on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m.
