Magier Notches Third Shutout in Women's Soccer's 0-0 Draw With Gettysburg

Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore goalkeeper Reba Magier earned her third shutout of the season as the Swarthmore College women's soccer team (5-3-1, CC 1-2-2) secured a 0-0 tie at home against Centennial Conference opponent Gettysburg College (7-1-2, CC 2-1-1) on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Clothier Field.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Garnet outshoot the Bullets, 6-4, over the first 45 minutes, Swarthmore had the best chance for either side to get on the board before the end of regulation in the 75th minute. Ellen Bachmanhuff headed a corner kick taken by Amber Famigelli towards the far post, but a Gettysburg defender was able to desperately clear the ball off the line to keep the scoreline even at 0-0.

The two overtime periods were highlighted by a late Garnet charge in the final minute. Gettysburg had a corner kick that was cleared away up to junior Emma Sindelar. The forward then went the nearly the length of the field, eluding several defenders before unleashing a shot attempt at the top of the box that went high. The dramatic finish yielded no results, which forced the teams to settle for the tie.

Swarthmore's Magier finished with nine saves on 22 chances to secure the blank sheet. Her counterpart, sophomore Eliza Gray, turned in a strong performance as well for Gettysburg by tallying seven stops on 14 opportunities.

The Garnet will next be in action against Centennial opponent McDaniel on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. in Maryland.
