15th-Ranked Men’s Soccer Ends Weekend Alone in First Place Despite Playing Gettysburg to 1-1 Tie

Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. Wyatt McCall netted his third goal of the season in the second half as the #15 Swarthmore men's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with Gettysburg on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Clothier Field . Despite playing the Bullets to a tie, the Garnet ended the weekend alone in first place in the Centennial Conference standings.

Swarthmore (6-0-4, CC 2-0-2), which also remained undefeated through 10 matches for the first time since 2010, dominated most of the opening half and doubled Gettysburg (2-7-1, CC 2-1-1) in total shots, 10-5, through the first 45 minutes. The Bullets, however, were able to find the back of the net first in the 27th minute when Devin Geiman won a loose ball at the top of the box. The senior scored on an open net after Garnet senior goalkeeper Peter Maxted collided with an opposing forward.

Despite trailing at the break, Swarthmore once again proved to be resilient and netted the equalizer in the 55th minute. McCall took a pass from Jack Momeyer and beat goalkeeper Connor Darrell with a shot to the far post that salvaged the tie and allowed the Garnet to end the evening alone in first place after Ursinus fell to Johns Hopkins earlier in the day.

Maxted made five saves on 15 opportunities for Swarthmore, while Gettysburg's Darrell turned away six of the 24 shots he faced between the pipes.

Swarthmore, which is currently tabbed 15th in the latest NSCAA National Poll, will face a tough test on the road when it visits 10th-ranked Stevens on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
