HAVERFORD, Pa. - Falling behind early, the Swarthmore College field hockey team suffered its tenth consecutive loss on the season to Centennial Conference foe Haverford College by a 6-1 score on Saturday afternoon.
Haverford (9-6, 5-4 CC) tallied two goals in the opening 7:06 minutes of action to set the momentum. The Fords would go up 3-0 before Swarthmore (2-14, 0-9 CC) found the back of the cage.
Freshman Ursula Monaghan tallied her second goal of the season at 24:20 for the Garnet's lone goal of the contest. Megan Holt of Haverford score her second of the half just 29 seconds later to keep the Fords lead cushioned at 4-1. The Fords had a 10-5 shot advantage heading into halftime.
The Garnet put a lot of shots on target in the second half - including three from senior Nia Jones - but couldn't find the back of the cage. In the 54th minute of action, senior Aarti Rao kept the Fords' scorers at-bay with a defensive save - the first of her career.
Jen DiMaria netted the fifth Fords' goal in the 25th minute and Bryn Bissey added one final insurance goal in the 64th minute to put the game away at 6-1.
Haverford goalkeeper Lindsay Lopes made eight stops in the victory. The defense in front of her picked up three defensive saves - two from Brooke Kelly. For Swarthmore, sophomore Ainsley Parrish played a complete game making five saves.
Swarthmore travels to non-conference opponent Arcadia University on Thursday, October 31 before it's season finale and senior game at home on Saturday, November 2 against Ursinus.
