Bryn Mawr Hands Field Hockey 4-1 Loss

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Swarthmore College field hockey team suffered its ninth straight loss on Wednesday afternoon at Bryn Mawr College by a 4-1 score. 

Swarthmore (2-13, 0-8 CC) has not lost to Bryn Mawr (4-10, 1-8 CC) since the first Centennial Conference meeting in 1993. In that match, the Owls prevailed 3-2 in overtime. 

The Owls struck early - at 3:40 from Kayle Bixler - on their fifth shot for an early advantage. Swarthmore's senior goalkeeper Gabby Capone made four saves in the game all of which came in the opening minutes of action. 

Seniors Aarti Rao and Anne Rosenblatt put two shots on target in the 15th and 16th minute of action, but were denied. The frame closed out with the Owls earning a 7-5 shot edge and 1-0 lead. 

In a three minute span, the Owls added two goals to the score line for a commanding 3-0 lead with 25 minutes to play in regulation. Madison Beckman tallied one goal and one assist in the scoring run. Bixler added her second on the day in the 58th minute to end the Bryn Mawr scoring. 

Sophomore Erin Gluck netted the lone Garnet goal of the game in the 69th minute; she finished with two shots. Rosenblatt earned three shots on goal. 


Bryn Mawr keeper Faith Westdorp made two stops for the victory. 

Swarthmore travels to Haverford on Saturday, Oct 26 for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
