Mules Hand Field Hockey 3-0 Loss in Conference Play

Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College field hockey squad fell to Muhlenberg College by a 3-0 score on Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference action. 

Despite playing scoreless through nearly the entire first half, the Garnet (2-12, 0-7 CC) conceded three goals to the Mules to remain winless in conference play. Muhlenberg improved to 4-3 in conference and 5-7 on the season with the road victory. 

Mariah Alston of the Mules recovered her own rebound and maneuvered to the left side for the first tally at 28:54. Swarthmore earned three good opportunities in the opening half, but Mules keeper Sierra Lenker was there to stop each time. 

The teams played to a 9-8 shot matchup and 5-4 penalty corner tally - the Mules just edging the Garnet in both categories - in the opening 35 minutes of action. Muhlenberg took a 1-0 lead into the break. 

The Mules struck early in the second half - Kayleigh Thies took a long pass from Christine Germaske for a one-on-one to set the score at 2-0 in the 38th minute of action. Thirty minutes would pass before Muhlenberg put away an insurance goal - Meghan Gill found Lauren Jordan out of a scrum to put the Mules ahead 3-0. 

Lenker completed the shutout victory with five saves for the Mules, while Capone earned two saves in 43 minutes of action and sophomore Ainsley Parrish collected five stops in the final 27 minutes. 

Swarthmore will take to the road for three of its remaining four regular season games. Next match is set for October 23 at Bryn Mawr.
