Women’s Soccer Falls to McDaniel, 2-1, in Overtime

Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Emma Sindelar scored her fifth goal of the season, but the Swarthmore women's soccer team fell to McDaniel by a 2-1 score on Saturday, Oct. 12 in Maryland.

McDaniel (10-2, CC 4-1) quickly got on the scoreboard when Christina Wroblewski finished a pass from Nicole Hill by placing the ball into the bottom left corner of the net in just the fourth minute of action. The Garnet dominated the remainder of the first half, but Haley Jacobs was able to come away with three stops to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.

With time winding down, Swarthmore (5-4-2, CC 1-3-2) was able to net the equalizer to eventually force overtime. Sindelar scored an unassisted goal by rocketing a shot to the upper left corner of the net.

The Garnet, which had a commanding 23-9 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in corner kicks in the contest, had the first two scoring chances in the extra session. The Green Terror, however, were able to convert on their first opportunity in the 98th minute.

After sophomore Melissa Trofa and senior Megan Brock misfired on their attempts for Swarthmore, Hill was able to score on an open net after drawing sophomore goalkeeper Reba Magier away from the pipes. Wroblewski was credited with an assist on the golden goal that allowed the hosts to escape with the win.

Magier made three saves on nine opportunities in the losing effort for Swarthmore. Jacobs earned the victory after turning away nine of the 23 shots she faced.

Swarthmore continues its four-game road trip when it visits Muhlenberg on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
