Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College volleyball team dropped it's second straight match to Washington College on Tuesday night in Centennial Conference action from Tarble Pavilion.
The Shorewomen (12-5, 2-1 CC) took the victory with set scores 25-17, 25-17 and pulled off the comeback in set three 26-24 to take the road with at Swarthmore (11-5, 1-2 CC).
The third set proved to be an exciting one as the score stayed tight throughout its entirety. Swarthmore gained its first lead, 16-15, since the opening point of the match on
Danielle Sullivan's '14 four-point service run. The score tied at 17 and 18 before the Garnet earned three straight points - including a solo block from
Sam DuBois '16 and kill from
Madison Heppe '16. After a Washington College timeout, the visitors fought their way back into the set to tie at 24-24 and finish with straight kills to end the match at 26-24.
Four Swarthmore players earned double-digit digs on defense including Sullivan and sophomore
Madison Heppe with 13 apiece. Sullivan needs just three more digs to reach a career milestone of 1,000 digs. Sophomore
Anastasia White-Torruellas picked up 10 digs - including six in the final set.
DuBois of Swarthmore earned her 12th double-double of the season with 23 assists and 11 digs. On attack, senior
Brone Lobichusky swung 11 kills, while Sullivan and junior
Chastity Hopkins added six each for the Garnet attack.
Kristin Lee led the Shorewomen with a double-double of 20 kills and 14 digs and earned one block assist. Alexis Jordan finished with 10 kills, seven digs and one service ace. On defense, Audrey Utchen had 17 digs and Rachel Baker dug for 12. At the net, Jess Daunoras earned three block assists - the team totaled four blocks on the night.
Visiting Washington College found its groove early in the first set to take a 7-1 lead on straight kills from four different players. The Garnet wouldn't come within three points for the rest of the opening set that ended in a 25-17 score.
In the second set, the Shorewomen got off to another hot start, 6-1, before the Garnet climbed back after three kills from Sullivan to make it 8-5 in the visitors favor. The teams went point-for-point for a stretch before Alexis Jordan came to service for Washington to begin a four-point run to put the Shorewomen ahead 14-8. Once again, Swarthmore didn't come within three points after that stretch from the visitors that won the set 25-17.
Swarthmore returns to action on Saturday, October 5 for Garnet Weekend hosting Gettysburg College at 2:00 p.m. Following the match will be an alumni gathering and scrimmage in Tarble Pavilion.

The Centennial Conference volleyball teams and The Tanner's Touch Foundation, a non-profit organization based out of Carroll County, Maryland, have joined together to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer. During the month of October, the 11 volleyball teams in the conference will campaign for this cause. Tonight's match between Swarthmore and Washington kicked off the annual "Dig for a Cure" match schedule.
