Women's Swimming Opens Semester With 105-89 Win Over Bryn Mawr

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - After a month off of competition, the Swarthmore women's swim team started the second half of the season with a splash on Wednesday night, taking down Tri-Co rival Bryn Mawr by a 105-89 score.

The team began the night with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay, with junior Becky Teng, freshman Nikkia Miller, senior Hannah Gotwals, and sophomore Katie Warren touching in 1:58.59.  The A-team was followed by an all-underclassman B-team (freshmen Eva Winter and Margaret Luo and sophomores Cassandra Vondrak and Pooja Kumar) in 2:01.88.

The Garnet proceeded take first in seven individual events, led by three wins from sophomore Kate Wiseman.  Wiseman completed her usual sweep of the sprint freestyle events (25.78 and 56.64), and also won the 100 breaststroke by nearly four full seconds in 1:12.87.  Classmate Supriya Davis took home two wins of her own, in the 1000 (10:55.50) and 500 (5:23.60) freestyle. Swarthmore's other two wins came courtesy of Winter and Teng, who won the 200 IM (2:22.08) and 100 backstroke (1:05.69), respectively.

As a team, the Garnet fared particularly well in distance freestyle, sweeping the top three spots in both the 500 and the 1000 behind Davis.  Junior Margaret Regan (5:40.29) and Winter (5:40.46) went 2-3 in the 500, while freshman Jessica Seigel (11:30.86) and senior Alice Wong (11:46.82) rounded out the top three in the 1000.

Swarthmore ended the day as it began, with a decisive relay win, as Regan, Davis, and Miller teamed up with junior Erin Lowe to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.01.

The Garnet returns to the pool on Saturday, taking on Cabrini at home in non-Conference competition. Action is set to begin at 2:00 pm.
