Box Score CHESTER, Pa. – The Swarthmore College field hockey team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 4-0 victory over Widener University (1-2) Saturday afternoon. The Garnet is off to its best start since the 2004 season.
Nia Jones began all scoring just under twelve minutes into the game with her second goal of the season. Jones took the ball into the zone alone for the unassisted tally and 1-0 Garnet led.
 
 
The remainder of the first half was fairly calm, as Swarthmore added just two more shots near the target and the Pride added four shots and two corner attempts in the first.
 
Senior forward 
Katie Teleky added to Swarthmore's advantage just 46 ticks into the second stanza with a pass from 
Sophia Agathis. Minutes later, Teleky inserted a corner and picked up a pass-back from Jones connecting for her fifth goal of the season. With 42:12 minutes elapsed, the Garnet had a 3-0 lead to its favor.
 
At the 68:54 mark, freshman forward 
Erin Gluck finalized all scoring with her second tally on the season, giving the Garnet a 4-0 victory. Jones picked up her second assist in the game off Gluck's goal.  
Gabby Capone collected her second shutout of the season making five saves in the cage.
 
 
Swarthmore held a 15-11 edge in shots and had nine penalty corner attempts to Widener's four.
 
The Garnet will open at home on Tuesday, September 11 with a 4:00 p.m. game against Arcadia.
