Box Score BALTIMORE - The Swarthmore College field hockey team (6-5, 1-3 CC) dropped a Sunday afternoon Centennial Conference match-up at Johns Hopkins by a score of 4-1.
Liane Tellier and Alexa Lantiere each recorded two goals for the victorious Blue Jays (5-4, 2-1). Junior Nia Jones recorded the lone Garnet goal in the 68th minute.
Tellier scored the first goal of the game in the first minute of play, and added another tally just seven minutes later minute, both assisted by senior Meghan Kellett, to put the Garnet in an early 2-0 hole.
The Garnet defense did not allow another goal for the remainder of the half, but Lantiere added two goals in the second half -- in the 48th and 64th minutes -- to give the Blue Jays a commanding 4-0 advantage.
Jones finally put Swarthmore on the board in the 68th minute with an unassisted goal, but it was too little, too late, as Hopkins held on for the 4-1 win.
Junior goalie Gabby Capone made eight saves, and freshman Ainsley Parrish added a save in the second half for the Garnet. For Johns Hopkins, senior goalkeeper Eliza Peijnenburg had 11 saves.
Indicating a closer contest than the final scoreline may indicate, Johns Hopkins only outshot the Garnet 13-12 while Swarthmore earned 14 corners to the Blue Jay's seven.
Swarthmore will return to the field Wednesday for a home game against conference opponent Washington College at 4:00 p.m.
