Box Score 2 HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Swarthmore College (3-1) volleyball team needed just six sets to sweep opponents Susquehanna (2-2) and Widener (0-4) to close out the Haverford Invitational on Sunday. The Garnet defeated Widener 25-20, 25-17, 28-26, while holding Susquehanna's offense to just 40 points over the three sets, winning 25-16, 25-16, 25-8.
Freshman libero Madison Heppe began her collegiate career strong over the weekend, including a 30-dig performance against Widener, proving to be a great addition to the Garnet squad. Kat Montemurro ended the final set with four kills and a team-high match total of 13.
In the match against Susquehanna, the Garnet showcased its defensive front line tactics by holding the Crusaders output. Montemurro led the squad with 13 kills, 14 digs, and six blocks while Heppe and Allie Coleman each registered 12 digs in the effort.
Montemurro and Coleman were voted by the coaches onto the all-tournament team for their efforts over the two-day competition. Swarthmore finished third overall amongst the six teams.
Next up for the Garnet is its home opener, against preseason ninth-ranked Eastern University on September 7th at 7:00 p.m.
