Field Hockey Drops Non-Conference Game to Eastern, 6-3

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College (6-3) field hockey team was outscored in the second half as Eastern University (6-3) prevailed 6-3 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Clothier Field. Kaycie Andrew tallied two of the Eagles four goals in the second half en route to the victory.

The Garnet found itself down 2-0 in just the third minute of play as the Eagles grabbed the quick advantage with a penalty stroke from Kelby Bolton followed by a goal one minute later from Abby Wagner.

Swarthmore, also receiving a penalty stroke attempt in the first half, got on the board at 19:34 as senior midfielder Catie Meador connected on the opportunity for her third goal of the season. The Garnet closed out the first stanza scoring with a blaze from junior forward Nia Jones for her first of two goals in the game.

The Eagles added a goal off a penalty corner attempt early in the 41st minute to take the lead which was never relinquished. In the 54th minute of play Kaycie Andrews added back-to-back goals for a 6-2 cushion for Eastern. Jones added her second goal of the game at 59:46, but it wasn't enough to spark a comeback for the Garnet.

Veronica Rayer and Kylie Jones split time in the cage for the Eagles as Jones gathered all five saves for Eastern.

Gabby Capone collected 10 saves in 51:12 for the Garnet, while Ainsley Parrish finished between the pipes making one save.

Eastern held a 23-13 shot advantage, while Swarthmore had a 19-12 edge in penalty corner attempts.

Swarthmore will return to action Thursday, September 27th at Clothier Field against Lebanon Valley in another non-conference match-up. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
