Sindelar Leads Women's Soccer Past Ursinus, 2-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Sophomore Emma Sindelar scored a pair of first-half goals just six minutes apart, leading the Swarthmore College women's soccer team (4-2, 2-0) to a 2-1 victory over Ursinus on Wednesday evening.

The win is the Garnet's second-consecutive Centennial Conference road victory and third consecutive overall victory.

Sindelar's first finish came thanks to a set-up from Megan Brock, who played her a ball on the left side from the midfield. Sindelar then chipped the ball over the Ursinus 'keeper to put Swat ahead 1-0 in the 14th minute. Just six minutes later, senior Haley Most played Sindelar in for her second goal, as the sophomore beat the Ursinus 'keeper yet again to make it a 2-0 match.

The homestanding Bears (2-5-0)  wouldn't go down without a fight, as freshman Sarah Cogswell cut the Swarthmore lead in half with her goal in the 43rd minute, making it a 2-1 match.

After an eventful first half that featured three goals, the second half tested both teams' defensive resolve, putting the spotlight on the Garnet's freshman goalkeeper Reba Magier. The first-year finished with three saves to pick up her third win of the season. Her counterpart -- Kara Dijoseph -- recorded seven saves on the day for the Bears.

The Garnet outshot the Bears 17-6 on the day, with the majority of Garnet shots coming in the second half. Sindelar led the Garnet in this category as well, finishing with five total shots.

The Garnet returns home to face rival Dickinson on Saturday. Play under the lights is set for 7:00 p.m.
