Field Hockey Improves to 5-0 with 2-1 Victory Over Arcadia

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College field hockey team defeated Arcadia University 2-1 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Clotheir Field. With the win, the Garnet improves to 5-0 on the season which is the best start since 1997.

Senior midfielder Sophia Agathis notched the game winning goal at 44:16 with a pass from Aarti Rao. Agathis' shot hit the top post and bounced into the left bottom corner for her second goal of the season.

Arcadia (2-1) struck first at 23:11 as Jennie Kamel maneuvered through the defense to get a shot on target for her second tally of the year and what proved to be the Knights lone goal on the afternoon.

About eight minutes later, the Garnet knotted the score at one with a goal from Anne Rosenblatt. She took a pass from Katie Teleky and connected for her second goal of the season. Teleky collected her third assist of the year.

In the cage, Swarthmore keeper Gabby Capone made three saves in the winning effort, while Arcadia split time between Mia DePlato and Sarah Baumgardner.  DePlato gave up both Swarthmore goals and made one save, while Baumgardner collected three saves in 23:52. Taylor Dalisera made two defensive saves for the Knights.

The Garnet outshot the Knights, 18-7 and had a 18-13 penalty corner edge.

Swarthmore will open up Centennial Conference play on the road this weekend with a trip to Franklin and Marshall. The game is set to start at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
