Women's Swimming Sneaks Past Ursinus, 108-97

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Led by sophomore stalwarts Supriya Davis and Kate Wiseman, the Swarthmore College women's swimming team pulled out a narrow victory over Centennial Conference rival Ursinus on Saturday by a 108-97 score.

Wiseman and Davis accounted for four of the Garnet's five individual victories.  Wiseman swept the sprint freestyle events in 25.15 and 54.18, while Davis beat the field by nearly eight seconds in the 200 butterfly with a season-best 2:09.85 before winning the 500 freestyle in 5:21.60, also a season-best.

Swarthmore's fifth win came courtesy of freshman Eva Winter, who took the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.17. Her mark sets a season-best in the 200 breaststroke for the Garnet.

Other notable swims included Winter's second-place finish in the 200 IM (2:19.46) and freshman Jessica Seigel's second-place touch in the 200 butterfly (2:17.50).

The Garnet swept both relay events, kicking off the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay (4:12.70) behind Winter, junior Rebecca Teng, senior Hannah Gotwals, and freshman Nikkia Miller.  The meet concluded with a Swarthmore victory in the 400 freestyle relay, as Teng, Miller, Davis, and Wiseman teamed up for a season best 3:41.29, highlighted by Davis' blistering 53.62 split on the third leg of the race.

Swarthmore resumes competition after winter break on January 23, traveling to face Bryn Mawr. Action will begin at 6 pm.
