Women's Soccer Loses in CC Semifinals to Host Blue Jays, 3-1

Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. – The No. 5 Swarthmore College women's soccer team (12-6-1) suffered a conference season-ending loss to host and No. 1 seed Johns Hopkins University in the Centennial Conference semifinals by the score of 3-1.

The Blue Jays took a commanding lead early, scoring its first goal in the 15th minute when sophomore Hannah Kronick played a through ball to junior Christina Convey, who found the back of the net. Convey struck again in the 20th minute, firing a perfectly placed shot in the top shelf.

Despite facing a 2-0 deficit, the Garnet gained momentum leading to the break when in the 40th minute junior Amber Famiglietti sent a corner kick into the box that freshman Emily Gale headed into the top right corner.

The Garnet nearly capitalized on multiple scoring chances in the second half, including sophomore Amy DiPierro's shot which missed wide in the 73rd minute, and sophomore Emma Sindelar's well placed shot that was saved on the goal line by Blue Jay freshman forward Hope Lundberg.

Although Johns Hopkins were held in check by the Garnet defense throughout the second half, the Blue Jays managed to add an insurance goal in the 86th minute when Kronick placed a shot past the outstretched arms of freshman keeper Reba Magier.

On the day Magier tallied six saves for the Garnet, including four in the second half.

This was the 15th consecutive victory for Johns Hopkins women's soccer in the Centennial Conference tournament. They will face the winner of the Haverford and Gettysburg matchup, vying for its eighth consecutive tournament title. The game is set for 1:00 pm on Sunday.
