Volleyball Drops ECAC Semifinal Match to Moravian, 3-1

BETHANY, W. Va. – The Swarthmore College (20-7) volleyball team closed out its 2012 campaign with a 3-1 loss to Moravian College (29-8) in the ECAC semifinal match played on the campus of Bethany College Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds advanced to the championship match with set victories of 25-22, 25-27, 25-21, and 25-19 over the Garnet.

Anchoring Swarthmore's defense was junior Danielle Sullivan with 20 digs and one block assist. Samantha DuBois and Kate Amodei each collected 12 digs in the effort. Chastity Hopkins led the front line with three block assists and Brone Lobichusky added two of her own. The Garnet managed five total blocks.

In her final match with the Garnet, senior Kat Montemurro collected 15 kills to lead the offensive push. Hopkins and Sullivan each registered five kills in the match. Senior Allie Coleman aided the offense with 33 assists along with one service ace. Liberos Madison Heppe and Amodei each had two service aces.

Taylor Jennings led the Moravian offense with 19 kills, while setter Kelly Brown racked up 40 assists. Jesse Krasley and Kelly Brown set the defense with 20 digs each and the front line totaled seven blocks in the match.

In its third consecutive 20-win season, the Garnet finish 20-7 overall and 8-2 in Centennial Conference play and will graduate two seniors, Kat Montemurro and Allie Coleman.
