Box Score Swarthmore, Pa. - Audrey Allen scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute to lift the Swarthmore College (7-5, 2-3 CC) field hockey team over Washington College (5-5, 2-2 CC) 3-2 in Centennial Conference action, ending a three-game losing streak.
The Garnet won the game in exciting fashion, scoring two goals in the final 11 minutes to even its conference mark.
Swarthmore scored the first goal of the game in the 11th minute when senior Katie Teleky added her ninth goal of the year, assisted by senior Sophia Agathis. The Shorewomen responded quickly with a goal in the 15th minute by sophomore Claire McAuliffe for the final goal of the first half.
The Shorewomen struck early in the second half, with a goal by senior Kristen Wille in the 42nd minute. The Garnet defense would hold from there, and the offense converted on two late goal opportunities by junior Nia Jones in the 59th minute and Allen converted in the 65th minute for the win with assist by senior Julia Tallarico.
The Garnet offense outshot Washington 25-16. Junior Gabriella Capone added four saves for the Garnet defense.
Swarthmore will return to action Saturday in a home conference match-up against Gettysburg College. The game is set to begin at 1:00 pm from Clothier Field.
