Nia Jones Nets Hat Trick in Field Hockey's 5-1 Victory Over Bryn Mawr

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior forward Nia Jones registered a hat trick as the Swarthmore College field hockey team (9-7, 4-5 CC) snapped a two-game skid with 5-1 Centennial Conference victory over Bryn Mawr College (5-11, 0-10 CC) on Wednesday afternoon at Clothier Field.

The Garnet opened the first half with two quick goals from Nia Jones and Katie Teleky. Jones' goal came at 5:35 as she brought the ball up the end line and snuck it past the Owls goalkeeper for the early lead. Teleky was fed a pass from Catie Meador and sent it into an open Owls goal to put Swarthmore at a 2-0 advantage.

Bryn Mawr got on board in the 30th minute with a goal from Holly Constants who took a pass from teammate Kayla Bixler.

Swarthmore added one additional goal at the end of the first half with sophomore Alexis Zavez's first goal on the season. The assist was credited to senior Julia Tallarico.

Jones would add two more goals in the second stanza for the hat trick and decisive victory for the Garnet.

Gabby Capone collected two saves to record the win in goal for the Garnet, while Ainsley Parrish finished the final 8:49 in net.

Owls goalkeeper Alex Wenfield made five stops in the cage in 63:04 minutes of playing time. Faith Westdrop finished out the final minutes of play for Bryn Mawr, making two stops.

Swarthmore will close out the regular season this Saturday during Garnet Weekend at Clothier Field against Haverford College. The game is slated to start at noon.
