Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College (11-3, 3-2 CC) volleyball team halted its two-game skid with a 3-1 victory over Washington College (7-10, 2-2 CC) Tuesday evening at the Tarble Pavilion during Centennial Conference action.
The Garnet fell in the first set 25-20, but got into a rhythm to take the next three sets, 25-9, 25-15, 25-15 to drop the Shorewomen.
Leading the defense for Swarthmore was senior outside hitter Kat Montemurro as she collected 25 digs. Freshman libero Madison Heppe added 16 digs in the effort, while senior setter Allie Coleman registered 12 digs.
On the front line, the Garnet ended the match with nine team blocks. Chastity Hopkins, Brone Lobichusky and Zahra Ahmed each had four block assists. Coleman sprung up for three block assists of her own and Hopkins gathered one solo block.
Swarthmore's offensive effort was led by Lobichusky, as the junior middle blocker notched 16 points on the night. Those points came from seven service aces, seven kills and two block assists. Lobichusky hit a team-best .357 attack percentage.
Also on the offense, Montemurro collected 11 kills en route to her seventh double-double on the season. She also added four service aces for the Garnet. Ahmed ended the night with 11 points with nine coming from kills. Coleman and Samantha DuBois collaborated at setter with 30 total assists.
The Shorewomen struggled on the attack as it registered 27 errors on the night, while also committing 14 receiving errors. Kristin Lee led the offense with 10 kills, while Kaitlin Rowan and Kate Liccione controlled the defense with 18 and 16 digs, respectively. Jen Daunoras made two solo blocks and two block assists for the Shorewomen.
Swarthmore will return to action Saturday, October 6th as it hosts a tri-match featuring Gettysburg College and Moravian College. The Garnet will take on the Bullets at 1:00 p.m. and the Greyhounds at 5:00 p.m. The visiting teams will match-up at 3:00 p.m.
