Box Score Allentown, Pa. – Despite generating 19 shots and 23 penalty corners and dominating the run of play, the Swarthmore field hockey team (8-7, 3-5) could not find the back of the net in a 1-0 setback at Muhlenberg.
The homestanding Mules managed just nine shots in the game, but Mariah Alston put a penalty-corner shot home in the 22nd minute for the game-winner.
The Garnet had several early opportunities to take the lead but was twice denied on penalty strokes in the span of 15 seconds by Muhlenberg senior goalkeeper Kristen Dornenburg.
Gabby Capone '14 made four saves in goal for Swarthmore.
The Garnet returns to play on October 24, hosting Bryn Mawr at 4 PM.
