Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Swarthmore women's soccer team kept itself at the forefront in the hunt for the postseason on Saturday, downing Centennial Conference opponent McDaniel 1-0 on the strength of a first-half goal by freshman Aine Schanche.
The defense once again played a pivotal role in the Garnet's win, as freshman Reba Magier made two saves to earn her second consecutive shutout.
The Garnet and Green Terror defenses duelled throughout the the 90 minutes, and the match remained scoreless throughout much of the first half of play. Despite shots on goal by Swarthmore's Emma Sindelar, Emily Gale, and Megan Brock within the first 30 minutes, the score was deadlocked until 35:35 in the first half when Schanche put one in the back of the net, with an assist from junior Amber Famiglietti.
That was all the Garnet defense would need, as Magier recorded the shutout with the help of her defense, which allowed just two shots on goal throughout the entire game.
The Garnet will return home to non-Conference action on Monday, facing off against Lancaster Bible. Action is set to begin at 7pm.
