Volleyball Sends Widener Home in Straight Sets to Collect 320 Challenge Victory

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Seniors Kat Montemurro and Allie Coleman each collect double-doubles as Swarthmore College (13-4) volleyball collected its third consecutive 320 challenge victory over Widener University (12-13), doing so in straight sets on Thursday evening in Tarble Pavilion. The Garnet held off the Pride with set wins of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-20.

The Garnet defense was led by a handful of players as Montemurro, Madison Heppe and Danielle Sullivan combined for 51 digs.

Meghan Spence and Victoria Miller each registered 14 digs for the Pride in the effort.

For her ninth double-double on the season, Montemurro, in addition to her 18 digs, collected 11 kills to lead Swarthmore's offensive attack. The senior captain also managed three service aces during the 320 match. Freshman Samantha DuBois produced 17 assists and one service ace over the three sets. Coleman grabbed her fifth double-double of the season with 14 assists and 11 digs.

Zahra Ahmed aided the Garnet offense on a team-high .319 hitting percentage, with seven kills, as Chastity Hopkins and Sullivan each registered nine kills for the Garnet.

Widener's offense was led by Angela DiMaria with nine kills and one service ace. Jessica Dembeck added eight kills, while Maggie Greenberg set-up 32 assists.

Swarthmore will return to Centennial Conference action Saturday, October 13th with a trip to McDaniel for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
