Two-time National Coach of the Year Landry Kosmalski is entering his 13th season as the head coach at Swarthmore. Over the last eight seasons, Swarthmore has the fifth highest winning percentage in the country across all divisions (DI, DII, and DIII). In that time, the Garnet have won over 82% of their games, advanced to seven straight NCAA tournaments – including one Elite Eight and two Final Fours, and garnered seven individual All-America awards.

Last season, Kosmalski led the Garnet to a second straight Centennial Conference title and a trip to the NCAA Second Round. The Garnet recorded 20-plus wins for the eighth consecutive campaign. Vinny DeAngelo was a consensus All-America selection, repeated as the D3hoops.com Region V Player of the Year, became the program's first-ever Academic All-American, and closed his career as Swarthmore's all-time leading scorer with 1,743 points.

In 2022-23, Kosmalski led the Garnet to the Final Four for the second time during his tenure. The NCAA Tournament run came after the Garnet captured their third Centennial Conference crown in six seasons. Vinny DeAngelo was chosen the Centennial Player of the Year and an NABC First Team All-American. Swarthmore ended the campaign ranked third in the national poll. Kosmalski was the recipient of the Glenn Robinson Award, given to the top Division III coach each year, as well as D3hoops.com District Coach of the Year.

The 2019-20 season, Landry Kosmalski’s eighth at Swarthmore, was magical by any standard. The team started and finished the season ranked No. 1 nationally, won its first 26 games, and finished 28-1, primed for an NCAA tournament Sweet 16 game before the remainder of the season was canceled due to Covid. For leading the team to such heights, Kosmalski was named NABC National and Regional Coach of the Year, as well as Centennial Conference Coach of the Year for the fourth time in five seasons. Zac O’Dell and Nate Shafer were both honored as All-Americans, Vinny DeAngelo was named National Freshman of the Year, and sophomore George Visconti joined those three in receiving All-Conference recognition.

The 2018-19 season, Landry Kosmalski's seventh at Swarthmore, was – for an astounding fourth consecutive year – the most successful in program history. Building on their then program-best 25-6 record and trip to the Elite Eight in 2017-18, the Garnet defied all expectations in 2018-19 by advancing to the National Championship game and finishing the season ranked second in the national polls with a 29-4 record. Centennial Conference regular season champions for the third season in a row – and conference tournament champs for the second time in three years – the Garnet also finished 7-0 in their non-conference schedule. As in past years, the team was near or at the top of many national statistical lists, including fifth in total rebounds, seventh in both scoring defense and field goal percentage defense, and – for the second season in a row – first in total blocks.

Individual recognition abounded in 2018-19: senior Cam Wiley and junior Zac O’Dell were named First Team All-Centennial Conference, junior Nate Shafer earned Second Team All-Conference recognition, and sophomore Conor Harkins was named All-Conference Honorable Mention. The Centennial Conference named Wiley Player of the Year for the second time in his career, O’Dell garnered Defensive Player of the Year honors, and Kosmalski was named Centennial Conference Coach of the Year for the third time in four seasons. Swarthmore received recognition on the regional and national level as well as Wiley and O’Dell were both named to the D3hoops All-American Third Team and Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team, as well as the NABC All-Region First Team. Wiley earned NABC All-America First Team honors as well as being named D3hoops Mid-Atlantic Region and NABC District Player of the Year. Kosmalski was also named D3hoops Mid-Atlantic Region and NABC District Coach of the Year.

In 2017-18 the Garnet under Kosmalski finished 25-6, were Centennial Conference regular season champions for the second year in a row, qualified for their second consecutive NCAA tournament, and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history. The team led the conference in points per game, field goal percentage, three-pointers made, blocks, defensive field goal percentage, and – as has become the norm during Kosmalski’s tenure – offensive rebounding and rebounding margin. Nationally, Swarthmore ranked first in total blocks, fourth in rebounding margin, and 15th in field goal percentage defense. Senior Zack Yonda, junior Cam Wiley, and sophomore Zac O’Dell earned All-Conference recognition.

The historic 2016-17 season included Centennial Conference regular season and tournament titles, the program’s first NCAA tournament appearance and tournament victory, conference Player-of-the-Year, and an All-American. The Garnet ranked first nationally in rebounding margin (and finished second across all divisions only to the University of North Carolina), second in blocked shots, and sixth in field goal percentage defense. Sophomore Cam Wiley was named Centennial Conference Player of the Year and junior Zack Yonda earned Second Team honors. Wiley was also named the program's first All-American - the only sophomore in the country to be honored. Kosmalski was named conference Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

The previous season was a prelude to the historic one of 2016-17. The 2015-16 squad started the season 9-0, finished 13-5 in league play, won a then program-record 22 games (breaking the previous record of 17), and advanced to the championship game of the ECAC tournament. Swarthmore led the conference in scoring, field goal percentage defense, rebounding, three-pointers made, and free throw percentage. Nationally, the Garnet ranked 5th in free throw percentage, 9th in rebounding margin, and 19th in scoring defense. Three Garnet players earned all Centennial Conference honors, including sophomore Matt Brennan (Second Team), and classmates Robbie Walsh and Zack Yonda (Honorable Mention). For leading the Garnet to second place and the conference tournament championship game – after being picked to finish seventh in preseason polls – Kosmalski was named Centennial Conference Coach-of-the-Year. Swarthmore led the charge on the conference Academic Honor Roll as well, as a league-leading nine players were honored.

Prior to 2015-16, the Garnet had shown significant improvement in Kosmalski’s tenure. The team’s win total improved each season, as did its position in the conference standings. The 2014-15 Garnet squad finished 11-14 and sophomore Chris Bourne was named Centennial Conference Honorable Mention. A thrilling double-overtime win over Roanoke on their home court in the Cregger Classic championship game provided one of the season’s top highlights.

A 2000 graduate of Davidson, Kosmalski arrived at Swarthmore after serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater from 2004-06 and 2009-12. As an assistant coach, he helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of Southern Conference championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances (2006 and 2012). As coach of the team's post players, Kosmalski mentored 2012 Southern Conference Player of the Year award winners De'Mon Brooks (coaches) and Jake Cohen (media). In the five seasons that Kosmalski worked on the Davidson coaching staff, the Wildcats posted an overall record of 102-58.

Kosmalski had a prolific playing career at Davidson before moving to the coaching staff. One of the best big men in program history, Kosmalski was a four-year starter for the Wildcats, helping lead the 1997-98 squad to the NCAA Tournament. His playing accolades include making the All-Southern Conference First Team in 1999 and 2000, as well as garnering Southern Conference Freshman of the Year laurels in 1997. Kosmalski ranks 4th all-time at Davidson in rebounding (877), 17th in scoring (1,438), and 12th in steals (121). He was inducted into the Davidson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.

Between stints at Davidson, Kosmalski served as head boys' basketball coach and dean of students at the Webb School in Knoxville, Tennessee. As the boys' basketball coach at Webb, he helped improve the team's win total by nine games by his second season.

Kosmalski's basketball resume also includes extensive playing and coaching experience overseas. Following his graduation from Davidson in 2000 and until 2004, he played for several professional teams in Sweden and France. In 2006-07, before beginning at Webb, Kosmalski served as head coach of the 08 Stockholm Human Rights Basketball Club developmental team and assistant coach of the professional team.

A native of Bedford, Texas, Kosmalski and his wife, Lauren, reside in Swarthmore with their children, Lincoln, Bexley, and Larkin.
