Physical Education Swim Test
All students must pass a survival swim test or complete one quarter of swim instruction. All first year students will be assigned a time to take their swim test during Orientation week.
If you are unable to pass the swim test, there are a variety of PE swimming classes offered throughout the academic year. Students who successfully complete a PE swimming class will fulfill the swim test requirement AND earn 1 PE unit.
Any student who has a current WSI or Lifeguarding certification does not need to take the test. You must present the valid certification card at the time of your swim test during Orientation or bring to Marian Fahy, Administrative Assistant, in the main athletics office in Lamb-Miller Fieldhouse.
SWIM TEST PROCEDURE:
Objective: Demonstrate the ability to swim safely in the event of a water emergency.
Each individual must enter the pool via the shallow end and swim 75 yards (3 pool lengths) continuously without stopping at either end or in the middle. Finishing up in the deep end, get out of the water without using the ladder. Re-enter the water in the deep end with a feet-first jump and tread or float (no swimming) in deep water for 2 minutes.
