Givans Takes First in 60 Meter to Lead Women's Track & Field at Seamus McElligot Invitational
HAVERFORD, Pa. - Strong performances from seniors Kenyetta Givans and Stephanie Beebe on the track, and freshman Osazenoriuwa Ebose in the field led the Swarthmore College women's track and field team at the Seamus McElligot Invitational this weekend at Haverford College.
Givans earned first place in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 9.12, and second place in the 200 meter dash (27.57) ahead of runners from Centennial Conference rivals, Johns Hopkins University and Haverford College.
Beebe also represented the senior class with a second place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.22.
The Garnet runners found much success in the 1 mile run, with a fourth place finish for junior Rebecca Hammond (5:16.60). Hammond (pictured) edged out senior teammate Jen Johnson, who finished only .02 seconds behind (5th/5:16.62). Junior Rebecca Painter also broke into the top 10 with a tenth place finish and time of 5:26.19.
In the 4 x 400 meter relay, the Swarthmore 'A' team placed third with a time of 4:18.33.
Ebose followed up her record-breaking weekend at Ursinus with a convincing throw of 37—01.00 to earn her a second place finish in the shot put.
The women look to capitalize on their continuing success next weekend at the Boston University Valentine Invitational.
