Roanoke Roughs Up Men's Basketball in Morris Cregger Consolation Game, 74-48

ROANOKE, Va. - Host Roanoke used a 19-point performance from Logan Singleton and a 15-point performance from Kwasi Amponsah to dispatch a cold-shooting Swarthmore College men's basketball team (1-9) by the score of 74-48 in the consolation game of the Morris Cregger Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Jordan Federer led the Garnet with 11 points while senior Michael Giannangeli and junior Will Gates each added 10 points. Swarthmore was done in by its worst shooting performance of the season, hitting just 24 percent of its shots from the field.

For his efforts, Gates was named to the Morris Cregger Invitational All-Tournament Team.

After evenly-played opening minutes of the game, the Maroons took control of the game with a decisive 11-0 run over a six-minute stretch. A triple from Roanoke's Zach Barrett at the eight-minute mark capped the run, making it a 21-7 game. With the Garnet unable to get anything going offensively, the Maroons extended the lead to as large as 22 over the final eight minutes of the first half, outscoring Swat 15-6 to take a 39-19 lead going into the locker room.

The second half proved to be more of the same, as Roanoke saw its leads ballon to as large as 28 en route to a 74-48 final.

Freshman Matt Sharma added a game-high three blocks while sophomore Jay Kober netted five points.

Swarthmore returns to action on Thursday with a trip to Glenside to face Arcadia in non-conference action. Play is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
