Women’s Swimming Receives Program-Record Eleven NCAA Championship Selections

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 16 Swarthmore College women's swimming team had 11 individuals earn NCAA National Championship invitations, announced on Wednesday evening. 

Coming off a weekend headlined by 15 school records, nine conference records and a new conference championship points record, the reigning, three-time Centennial Conference Champions added another accolade to its growing list of accomplishments. The team will send a program-record 11 swimmers to compete in a program-record 24 events at the upcoming NCAA National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Elle Anthony, Kaja Arusha, Annaliese Chen, Genine Collins, Kate Hallmark, Lauren Rohde, Sophie Rotival, Erin Szuromi, Ainsley Jane Tambling, Quinn Weygandt and Ashley Wong all received NCAA Championship selections for the nationally-ranked Garnet. Swarthmore has 13 individuals/relays seeded inside the top-20 with six positioned inside the top-10 heading into the championships, which open on Wednesday, March 20th.

Collins looks to wrap up an outstanding rookie campaign with a team-leading seven swims at the NCAA Championships. The first-year earned the seventh seed in the 50 freestyle, while qualifying for the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Collins will also compete as a member of the 200 medley, 200 freestyle, 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays. 

Rotival and Anthony are also slated for heavy workloads with six swims for the Garnet. Rotival secured the fifth seed in the 100 breaststroke and the 20th seed in the 200 breaststroke, while Anthony enters as the 12th seed in the 50 freestyle. Rotival and Anthony both earned two All-American honorable mentions at last season's championships. 

Weygandt established herself as one of the top swimmers in the nation with a remarkable sophomore season. The reigning Centennial Championship Most Outstanding Performer looks to add to her resume after securing top-15 seeding in all three of her individual events. Weygandt enters the championships as the second seed in the 400 IM, the sixth seed in the 200 IM and the 15th seed in the 200 butterfly. Last season, Weygandt earned her lone All-American selection as an honorable mention in the 400 IM. 

The Garnet also positioned themselves for success in the relay events with several teams earning top-10 seeds. The 200 freestyle of Anthony, Collins, Rotival and Tambling received the fifth seed to headline five Swarthmore selections. The 200 medley of Arusha, Rotival, Wong and Collins also earned the ninth seed, while the 400 freestyle of Anthony, Collins, Tambling and Weygandt are seeded 10th.
