Women's Soccer Lends Helping Hand Over Fall Break

Women's Soccer assisted at Cradles to Crayons on Thursday.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The 18th-ranked Swarthmore College women's soccer team is in the middle of its most successful season in program history. This week, the team also demonstrated off-field character with two community service projects in the greater Philadelphia area.

On Monday, members of the team hosted the Garnet's 11th annual free fall clinic for girls aged 4-14 in the Swarthmore area. Various stations taught passing, shooting, dribbling, and assorted games, and Swarthmore players also showed off some soccer tricks to start the session.

The team also helped out at Cradles to Crayons in Philadelphia, a non-profit organization which collects and distributes essential items, such as clothing and school supplies, to children in homeless and low-income situations. Cradles to Crayons was founded in 2000 and served 87,000 children in Massachusetts and the Philadelphia area in 2014 alone.

Members of the team put together outfits and also organized and bagged supplies to be shipped to families in need. In total, Swarthmore's student-athletes helped 195 children by sorting 95 bags of clothing and organizing 100 bags of other essential supplies.
