SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Members of the Swarthmore College men's and women's cross country programs spent the afternoon on Monday, Oct. 6 assisting the Quaker community at Pendle Hill.
Student-athletes from both teams spent the day refurbishing the meditation trail around the Pendle Hill campus with woodchips. The service endeavor will prove to benefit both groups moving forward, as the Swarthmore cross country runners also use the trail to run on and train throughout the year.
"It felt good to be doing a different type of work than school or running," said sophomore
Indy Reid-Shaw, who was among the student-athletes in attendance. "The cross country team and Pendle grounds crew worked towards our mutual interest of maintaining the wood chip path. I know I will feel more of a connection to the Quaker community at Pendle next time I run by."
Swarthmore athletic teams will be taking part in community service projects throughout the academic year. For more information, click
