Swat Spotlight: Garnet Participate in Annual SRS "World of Work" Project

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - In late April, Swarthmore men's soccer head coach Eric Wagner and assistant athletic trainer Allison Hudak participated in the annual "World of Work" program at Swarthmore-Rutledge School.  Sponsored each spring by the Swarthmore Rotary Club, "the program is designed to give students an opportunity to learn from local business people and educators how 'school-related skills' are involved in the world of work."

Along with two dozen 5th-grade students and two members of the Swarthmore Rotary Club, Hudak and Wagner walked from SRS to Swarthmore College's athletics facilities for a tour.  The students were introduced to the "workplace" of the Garnet Athletics staff and faculty, and had a chance to ask questions about the work environment and requirements.

Following the tour, Hudak, a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), and Coach Wagner escorted the students to the Sports Medicine facility in Tarble Pavilion for a brief overview of the Sports Medicine program at Swarthmore.   Next, Hudak put some of the students through some simulated physical rehab exercises.  Each student had a chance to get an "inside look" at the working environment and one of the duties of college athletics staff members.

This was the 10th consecutive year that Swarthmore coaches and athletics staff have participated in the annual program with SRS."
